ROMA, la città eterna…

This week one of my friends went for a city break in Rome. I thought this was a good time to remember Roma, la Città Eterna!
Rome has plenty to offer… But if you are visiting it during a city break (usually for 3, maximum 4 days) you have to choose wisely what to see. I will give you my TOP 5 in Rome.

Top 5 – Piazza Navona
This is one of the spot points that you should not miss if you visit Rome. Here you will find some important sculptural and architectural creations such as the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi with an Egyptian obelisk, the church of Sant’Agnese in Agone, amongst others.
Here you can eat some of the best ice creams you’ve ever tasted while you observe everything around you. You can have it in one of the many “cafés” you find in the Piazza or by a fountain.

Top 4 – Coliseo
Going to Rome and not visiting the Coliseum would sound strange… though I have to say that for me… inside it was kind of a disappointment (nothing like we imagine from the books and movies)… The outside is another story, it meets all expectations and it is completely worth seeing. Though I will leave a photo I took of each… and leave it to you…

Top 3 – Vaticano
It’s an independent state within Rome. You can go all around the Vatican City in more or less 20 minutes by foot.
On a city break maybe you don’t have the time to visit the Vatican Museum but if you have some extra time it is something worth spending your time with. At the end of the visit you can see the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo.
Once a week you can even see the Pope – if you are there in the right day (Wednesdays).
The view from the top of Saint Peter Basilica is breathtaking and worth climbing the 320 steps needed to get there.

Top 2 – Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II
Maybe for most people this is not in the top… I remember this monument marked my trip to Rome because of its magnificence. It’s amazing and the view from its top is awesome, you can see the Coliseum from one side and the Vatican City from the other.
Don’t miss it!

Top 1 – Fontana di Trevi
Don’t think this one needs presentation… one of the most famous fountains of the world… every time I’ve been there it was completely crowded.
One tradition is to throw a coin on the fountain to assure a return to the città… 3 times I’ve done… and I’ve returned to so far 2 times… let’s see if the last coin also ensures a future return also ;)

Top 2 – Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II
